Install of Baxter Oil Filter Adaptor & Re-Routing Fuel Vapor Hoses — in the Yellerlife 2015 Jeep JKU
We installed the Baxter Performance 3.6L oil filter adaptor into my 2015 Jeep Wrangler JKU. This is a conversion from a cartridge style oil filter to a spin-on oil filter with an anti-drainback valve. The purpose is to prevent dry starts, which my Jeep had been experiencing whenever it sat for a couple days at a time.
The instructions did not describe the potential problem of running into the fuel PCV hose and fuel vapor hose, so I wanted to show the details of it here.
In my Jeep specifically, when trying to disconnect the fuel PCV hose to test fit the oil filter, the plastic hose snapped instantly. It was very brittle, so I have to imagine this would be a common problem. There was also stress on the fuel vapor hose next to it as well when test fitting the spin-on oil filter.
Therefore, in order to get the oil filter adaptor installed, we had to re-route both of those lines using rubber hose, barbed fittings, and a compression fitting.
We did also make a YouTube video going into further detail on this, so if you are considering buying one of these for your 3.6L Jeep Wrangler JK, I would check it out beforehand so you can be prepared for this possible problem.
