SOCIAL MEDIA TIPS for a successful vehicle-focused page

March 2016 is when I started my Jeep-focused social media accounts, and since then, I have been posting daily and have grown my accounts on several platforms. Instagram is my primary social media, but I do post most of my content on multiple platforms.

A few Yellerlife follower counts as of July 2024.

I have learned so much through my experience online, and I am often asked for advice to those just starting their vehicle-focused social media accounts. This blog contains my advice that I find the most important.

HERE ARE THE BASICS — My tips for someone JUST STARTING their vehicle-focused social media account:

  1. POST CONSISTENTLY — Choose a posting schedule that you are able to maintain, whether it be once a day or maybe 2-3 times a week. AND STICK TO IT!!!

  2. STICK TO YOUR NICHE — If your page is about your Jeep, make sure every feed post involves your Jeep in some way. If someone chooses to follow you because of your Jeep, they are not likely to engage with any posts you make that do not relate to the Jeep. Make the posts your followers are wanting to see from you.

  3. ENGAGE WITH OTHERS IN YOUR NICHE REGULARLY — Make friends, comment on their posts, even meet up with some of them at events or wheel together. (You’ll find yourself making REAL FRIENDS out of it <3). Community is everything. You can’t expect others to support your page if you do not support theirs.

  4. EVERYTHING IS CONTENT (as long as it is related to your niche) — You’ll never run out of content ideas when you live by this. Haven’t been wheeling or wrenched on your Jeep in a minute? Take a picture getting ice cream in the Jeep or make a video going to the car wash. Boring things can be turned into successful content with a creative mind.

  5. BATCH YOUR CONTENT — Take a bunch of pictures and/or videos in one day and save them as drafts. You’re not going to feel inspired to make content or write captions every day. Save as many drafts as you can on the days you are feeling creative!

  6. DIVERSIFY YOURSELF — If you make an Instagram Reel, might as well post it to TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, etc as well. You never know what platform you may find the most success on.

  7. MIX CONTENT TYPES — Post a picture, make short-form and long-form videos, make carousel posts with multiple pictures, post stories. Try everything! Especially on Instagram and TikTok: if they come out with a new feature, try it out! The content type that is most successful changes all the time.

  8. NOTHING HAPPENS OVERNIGHT — It took me almost 7 years of daily posting on Instagram to reach 100k followers. I’m still not even close to that on other platforms. Most of the time this feels like a full-time job that you don’t get paid for. But if you never quit, you are already ahead of most others in social media.

  9. STAY TRUE TO YOU — Stick to your goals and be your genuine self. Don’t feel pressure to do certain things or build your Jeep a certain way because the internet says so. Set goals for yourself and work to achieve them. And if you reach the point where you are offered brand deals, evaluate what is truly worth it to you — it is okay to politely decline offers that do not feel right for you and your page.

  10. ENJOY WHAT YOU DO!! — It is very obvious when someone is passionate about what they are posting. IT SHOWS. If you are doing social media solely because you want to make money from it, you will likely not find success. Do it because you enjoy it, and then maybe money will eventually come as an added benefit.

I could add so many things to this and get very specific, but for this post, I stuck with the basics. For anyone interested, I would be glad to go further in depth with more advice.

Hope you found this helpful!
